Hyundai US sales jump 46 percent in March on gains in sales of Sonata, Santa Fe models

NEW YORK — Hyundai Motor America said Tuesday that it reported record sales for the month of March, posting a 15 percent increase on strong demand for its Sonata sedan and Santa Fe crossover.
The Korean Hyundai has been one of the hotter automakers in recent months, posting big growth in the U.S. market on sales of its vehicles that cost less than competing models from companies like Toyota. Hyundai said its 47,002-unit sales marked the fifteenth consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.
TOP SELLER: The Sonata midsize sedan. Hyundai sold 18,935 during the month, up 52 percent from March 2009.
HOT MODELS: The Tucson SUV. Car buyers picked up 3,084 in the month, a 129 percent improvement over a year ago.
