PATNA - Police officials baton-charged protesting activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Monday, as they staged a protest outside the Bihar Assembly against the opening of a branch of the Aligarh Muslim University in the state’s Kishanganj District.

Shouting slogans, around 3000 members of ABVP tried to force their way into the assembly to meet the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

They urged the university to be opened in Katihar, as was originally planned by the state government.

The police baton charged when activists started pelting stones to cross the final barricade in the R-Block area, which is close to the Chief Minister’s residence.

Some students and police personnel sustained injuries in the incident. (ANI)
