PPP may go ahead with constitutional reforms without PML-N nod

ISLAMABAD - Even as the PML-N remains caught over the issue of renaming the North Western Frontier Province (NWFP) under new constitutional reforms, the PPP-led Pakistan Government has started efforts to get the 18th Amendment passed in parliament without its support.

The Nation quoted PPP sources as saying that certain key figures in the ruling coalition were not giving much thought to achieving a consensus with the PML-N, and they were weighing other options, The Nation reports.

The PPP leadership has also directed its MPs and ministers not to give provocative statements on the issue in order to bring the political temperatures down.

Meanwhile, sources in ANP said that the deadlock over renaming of NWFP still existed, as the party was not ready to accept PML-N’s demand of renaming the province as Pakhtoonkhawa Khyber or Pakhtoonkhawa Abaseen.

On Sunday, ANP leader Senator Haji Adeel told reporters that PML-N leadership had sought more time, and expressed hope to resolve the issue amicably before March 31 when the consensus nomenclature for the province would be presented before the Constitutional Reforms Committee of the Parliament.
