Crane strikes 25-story NYC building, no injuries

NEW YORK — A listing crane has struck the side of a 25-story building near Wall Street, disrupting traffic and leading to the evacuations of nearby buildings.

The Fire Department of New York says there were no injuries Saturday after the crane hit a 23rd-story ledge of a building on Maiden Lane, three blocks from Wall Street. It’s unclear whether the lower Manhattan building was damaged.

Firefighters say at least six trucks responded to the area. Some traffic has been diverted, and streets have been closed.

Police say the struck building and two buildings next to it have been evacuated. The buildings are in the heart of the Financial District, but at least one of them is residential.

Maiden Lane runs east to west from near the South Street Seaport to lower Broadway near the World Trade Center site.
