Jharkhand legislators take on each other in sports field

RANCHI - After having confronted with a political tussle during recent elections, Jharkhand ruling and opposition legislators faced each other again, but this time in a sports field.

Supporters came to cheer as the legislators of the ruling coalition of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition legislators of other parties led by Congress slugged it out in a game of soccer at the Birsa Stadium on Friday.

The event was organised by the Jharkhand Sports Department.

The team of Speaker XI comprising of opposition legislators beat the CM XI of state ruling coalition by 2-1.ddressing the legislators, Speaker C P Singh, said having arguments and disagreements in the house was a part of their job.

“The role of an opposition and government in the Assembly is to sort out their arguments. The opposition has its own role to play and so does the government. And, while playing that role, differences and arguments does happen, Singh said.

“The reason this match is being played… everybody should play because health is wealth,” he added.

Besides soccer, the legislators also played a host of other games like cricket and badminton.

Geeta Koda, MLA from Jagannathpur, and wife of tainted former state chief Madhu Koda, also tried her hands in a game of badminton.

“I enjoyed a lot… and when I saw the match also I enjoyed the experience… it was very enjoyable,” said Geeta.

State chief Shibu Soren later gave away the prizes to the winning team.(ANI)
