LUCKNOW - Thwarting a determined effort by the police to stop him from unveiling a statue of Ram Manohar Lohia, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav garlanded it on Tuesday even if it cost him getting manhandled by policemen.

Yadav had a scuffle with the police personnel who already manhandled him, when he tried to garland the statue of his political mentor Ram Manohar Lohia at a government hospital in the city.

Just when Mulayam was about to offer flowers to the statue, the police intervened and forcibly stopped him from going ahead.

Samajwadi Party workers, however, ensured that the police did not create any ruckus, and finally Yadav managed to garland the statue.

“Police, including the senior police officials, tried to pull the ladder while we were unveiling the statue with flowers. They were even collecting the flowers to show to the Chief Minister that hey had tried their best to restrict me but we finally succeeded. Our party workers had already opened the veils,” Yadav said.
