Union: Crew still sick from plane with NC problem

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A union representative says eight crew members are still sick from problems on three earlier flights on the same US Airways plane where crew and passengers got sick in North Carolina this week

The Charlotte Observer reported that Judith Murawski of the Association of Flight Attendants says eight pilots and crew members who worked on flights in December and January haven’t returned to work because they are too ill.

Nine people on the same plane were taken to a Charlotte hospital Tuesday after they complained of symptoms consistent with exposure to toxic fumes.

US Airways spokeswoman Michelle Mohr confirmed that some crew members from a Jan. 16 flight have not returned to work, but she didn’t know how many. She said she would check on the exact numbers, including any crew members from the Dec. 28 and 30 flights who are not back on the job yet.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration says US Airways mechanics determined bad seals on a rear door allowed engine exhaust into the plane.
