EU drops EDF antitrust charges

BRUSSELS — European Union regulators are dropping antitrust charges against French power company Electricite de France after it promised to amend contracts with key corporate customers.

In a deal made legally binding Wednesday, EDF is promising to allow “a significant number” of large electricity users to pick rival suppliers and allow them to resell power to others.

The European Commission says this will increase competition for wholesale electricity in France.
