IMPHAL - People in Manipur are upset with continuous extortion, monetary demands and threats by militants.

In a daring act of defiance, villagers of Lilong Leihaokhong apprehended a cadre of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) militant group who was involved in abduction.

Recently, villagers of Lilong Leihaokhong Village in Thoubal district apprehended a militant cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Tamyanpokpa group from his residence, who was linked in the abduction of Md. Minajuddin also known as Thoiba.

After getting information about Thoiba, villagers intensified the search for his whereabouts.

The search led the villagers to a house, where a van, which was used during the kidnapping, was found along with the abductor.

The angry mob destroyed the van.

“We found the van, which was used to abduct Thoiba. The sandal of the abducted person was found inside the van. This led us to the owner of the van who later confessed his involvement in the abduction,” said Md. Liyakat, a local.

“We had given demand letter to Thoiba. After he refused to pay up, he was kidnapped,” said Md. Islao Rahaman, a nabbed KCP cadre

After questioning the nabbed militant, Thoiba was rescued by the villagers.

The nabbed militant revealed that he had joined the militant group six months earlier and was assigned the task of handing out extortion demand letters for the militant group. (ANI)
