SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- A well known business magazine has compiled the list of the richest men in the world. In a marked diversion from the previous years, this time the crown of the richest man in the world went to a Mexican, Carlos Slim Helu, a telecom magnate. An estimation of the wealth of the family of Carlos Slim Helu stands at $53.5 billion. It has seen a rise by 18.5 billion USD in just the past one year. Carlos Slim Helu also has an investment of $23 billion in the company American Movil. The shares of the company had risen by 35% in the last one year alone, which can in turn explain the rise in the fortune of Carlos Slim Helu.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates has slipped to the second position, falling back by $500 million behind Carlos Slim Helu. This is the first time that he has had to give up his position of being the richest man in the world, a title he has held in the last three years consecutively. In fact, in the last 14 of the 15 compilations, Bill Gates had held the top spot. This is despite the fact that his fortune too had increased by $13 billion in the last one year itself. The third spot has been taken by Warren Buffett, again an American and an insurance and media giant.
