SkyWest now says plane didn’t continue Aspen-to-Denver flight after report of smoke inside

SkyWest: Colo. flight canceled after smoke report
ASPEN, Colo. — SkyWest Airlines says a plane that returned to the Aspen airport because of smoke inside didn’t complete the flight to Denver as officials originally said.
SkyWest spokeswoman Marissa Snow said Monday that passengers were booked on later flights and the plane was flown to Denver for maintenance with no passengers aboard.
Snow says her earlier statements were incorrect.
The CRJ-700 carrying about 70 passengers and crew took off from Aspen Sunday but returned to the airport a few minutes later and landed safely.
Jim Elwood, Aspen’s airport aviation director, said the smoke was caused by a faulty air conditioner.
Initial reports said the smoke was in the cockpit, but some passengers told the Aspen Daily News smoke was in the main cabin.
