GHAZIABAD - Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday asked the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to set up a research and development (R&D) unit comprising highly qualified personnel from various fields of engineering.

“CISF is not like other paramilitary forces… Its duty is to secure vital, iconic establishments. They need to guard establishments with the help of developing technology. I suggested that they recruit youths with engineering and science backgrounds and start a small R&D wing so that the force can be equipped with new security systems,” he said at the force’s 41st raising day.

He said that CISF is protecting atomic energy establishments and iconic establishments, and therefore it was very important that we had the latest in science and technology for securing these very vital installations.

What applies to an airport may not apply to an atomic energy establishment. What applies to a space establishment will not apply elsewhere. The R&D section should study developing industrial security systems throughout the world and try to implement the same in Indian scenario,” he added.
