CHANDIGARH - A woman army major, Dimple Singla, has become the first woman to be court-martialled on charges of corruption.

She has been sentenced to a year’s rigorous imprisonment and dismissed from service.

Proceedings were initiated against Singla in 2007.

She was accused of abusing her position as a public servant by accepting Rs. 10,000 from the Defence Counsel in a court martial in which she was the Judge Advocate in November 2004.

Major Singla has the option of appealing to the Army commander or to move the armed forces tribunal. (ANI)
