Texas feedlot operator gives $20M to UNL ag school
LINCOLN, Neb. — A Texas feedlot operator is giving the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s agricultural business programs a $20 million gift to help promote entrepreneurship.
The money will provide scholarships, an endowed professorship in agribusiness and support for internships and other programs.
Paul Engler says he wanted to establish the fund at the university he attended to encourage young people to go into business for themselves and help rural communities.
The 80-year-old Engler was born in Stuart and graduated from UNL in 1951. His Amarillo-based Cactus Feeders company says it is the largest privately owned cattle feeding operation in the world, with locations in Texas and Kansas.
UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman says Engler’s gift will provide great opportunities.
