Police: Oregon car salesman shot during test drive
MEDFORD, Ore. — An Oregon car salesman is expected to recover after police say he was shot while taking a man on a test drive.
Officers say 32-year-old Robert Joe Johnson, who works at Lithia Toyota in Medford, was wounded in the abdomen Saturday in an alleged carjacking. They say he was hospitalized but is expected to be released in the next few days.
Police Chief Randy Schoen says Johnson was giving the man a test drive in a Ford Mustang when they pulled into a parking lot to switch drivers. He says the man drew a pistol and shot Johnson before speeding away.
Witnesses called police, and officers chased the Mustang, which eventually crashed in a field.
The Mail Tribune reports that 49-year-old Clayton Emil Huff of Eagle Point was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted aggravated murder, first-degree robbery and other charges.
Huff was being held on $3 million bail. It was unknown if he had an attorney.
