Financial Times US editor heading to Reuters
NEW YORK — The U.S. managing editor of the Financial Times is leaving to join the Reuters news service as its global editor-at-large.
Reuters, which is owned by the conglomerate Thomson Reuters Corp., said Chrystia Freeland will report to Reuters editor-in-chief David Schlesinger and help guide editorial strategy. Freeland, who was the top U.S. editor at the Financial Times for four years, will also write a weekly online column about business and politics for Reuters.com and serve as its lead pundit for TV appearances.
The Financial Times said it has named Gillian Tett, assistant editor for markets coverage, to replace Freeland. The newspaper, owned by the U.K.’s Pearson PLC, said Tett will start the job immediately and move to New York full-time in September.
Thomson Reuters shares were up 50 cents, or 1.4 percent, to $35.23 in afternoon trading, while Pearson rose 34 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $14.39.
