Ukraine’s Tymoshenko to rivals: oust me if you can

KIEV, Ukraine — Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is challenging her opponents to oust her in a no-confidence vote, apparently aiming to show they don’t have enough votes to do so.

The defiant call comes one day before Tymoshenko’s rival, Viktor Yanukovych, is due to be inaugurated as president after defeating her by a narrow margin in a Feb. 7 election runoff.

Yanukovych’s Party of Regions says it has called off a motion in parliament to strip Tymoshenko of her post Thursday, despite weeks of negotiations with her allies to form a new coalition against her.

But the party insists Yanukovych cannot work in tandem with Tymoshenko and will replace her by this spring.
