BHUBANESWAR - Rail services were hit for a few hours on several routes in Orissa as protesters Wednesday blocked railway tracks in Berhampur, Rourkela and Talcher after Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee presented the budget.

The disgruntled protesters staged ‘rail roko’ soon after the budget was presented. The protesters claimed that the state had been neglected in the rail budget.

“There is nothing in the budget for Berhampur, Ganjam and the southern part of the state,” said Sajit Sahu, a protester from Berhampur.

Similar protests were also seen in Rourkela and Talcher as protesters squatted on rail tracks blocking train movement for a few hours.

Orissa had demanded about Rs.1,805 crore but only about Rs.836 crore were allotted to the state.
