Manipur Police bust arms suppliers’ gang

IMPHAL - Police arrested five members of a gang of arm suppliers here on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip off, a team of Imphal East Police and Assam Rifles raided Khurai region of the state in a joint operation and busted the gang.

According to the police, the accused were involved in supplying arms to the Peoples Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), an armed insurgent group.

The police are guarding the accused.

“If anything happens to them, the blame will come on the police or any security people that they have been picked up, but they are innocent. What I want to tell you is that people under the cover of something they could manage to do such crime. This (operation) was done in combination with 39 AR (Assam Rifles) and 17 AR,” said Angam Kamei, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Imphal East Police.

An M-16 rifle, three 9mm pistols and some ammunition also recovered from accused. (ANI)
