Platinum Underwriters raises buyback program to $250 million

Platinum Underwriters authorizes further buyback

NEW YORK — Reinsurance provider Platinum Underwriters Holdings Ltd. on Tuesday said it authorized the repurchase of up to $167 million more in shares.

The approval raises the total of an existing share buy back program to up to $250 million. A previous program had about $83 million left.

Shares lost 13 cents at $36.88 in afternoon trading.
