Pak fighter jets pound South Waziristan, over 30 Taliban killed

ISLAMABAD - In one of the biggest operations by Pakistani combat jets, at least 30 Taliban insurgents were killed in an air raid in restive South Waziristan on Saturday.
According to a statement released by the army, fighter planes targeted militant hideouts located across the Shawal mountains, killing scores of Taliban gunmen and other militants.
“In Shawal mountains in South Waziristan agency 30 terrorists have been killed by security forces through strike this morning.Hideout in Shawal mountains was targeted after a tip received that terrorists are hiding in the Shawal mountains,” Xinhua quoted an army spokesperson, as saying.
The Pakistani Army had launched a major offensive against the extremists in the law less South Waziristan in October last year, and claimed to have forced the insurgents out of the region.
The military claims that it has killed over 1000 militants during the offensive. However, many believe that the militants have shifted their base to neighbouring regions such as North aziristan and Orakzai Agency. (ANI)
