NH school monitored to seek cause of illnesses

DERRY, N.H. — New Hampshire firefighters say they’re going to be monitoring the equipment at a Derry school to try to find out what sickened 22 students and staff members.

Derry Fire Capt. Scott Haggart says the plan is to turn up the furnace at the St. Thomas Aquinas School, heating it up as much as possible while continuing to monitor the building.

When firefighters arrived at the school on Wednesday morning they tested the air for carbon monoxide, but none was detected.

Haggart says most of the affected people were students and were on the third floor of the building.

They reported feeling faint and experiencing headaches and nausea and were blood-tested for exposure to carbon monoxide.

No one was seriously hurt.
