Maoists attack police camp in West Bengal, kill 14 security personnel

SEALDAH - Maoists attacked joint forces camp in West Bengal’s Sealdah area of West Midnapore District on Monday evening and left at least 14 security personnel on the spot.

According to sources, the incident occurred when over 40-armed Naxalites entered the joint forces camp and started indiscriminate firing. The place of incident falls under the Binpur Police station of the District.

Maoists also burnt the camp and planted landmines on the entire road leading to the camp.

Meanwhile, night vision force with anti-landmine vehicles has been sent to the spot and a massive hunt operation for the Maoists in the nearby areas has been launched.

Speaking to local media, Maoist leader Mallojua Koteshwar Rao claimed responsibility for the attack, and said that the Naxals want security forces to withdraw from the Lalgarh area.

When the last report came in, the gun battle was still on between police and Maoists near Dharmpur in West Midnapore District. (ANI)
