Impact of US Airways-Delta slot swap deal

MARKET SHARE: Delta projected it would operate nearly 30 percent of total available seat miles from the three main airports serving New York City, if the swap with US Airways were to go through as the two airlines want. US Airways hasn’t provided a similar figure at Washington’s Reagan National Airport.

THEIR PLANS: US Airways wants to expand service at National, and obtain access from Delta to slots at airports in Tokyo and Sao Paulo, Brazil. At LaGuardia, Delta wants to create a domestic hub. It would maintain or expand service to 30 small- and medium-sized communities from LaGuardia.

OTHER PLAYERS: The same week as the Delta-US Airways deal was announced, AirTran Airways said it planned to stop flying to and from Newark, N.J., and give its takeoff and landing slots there to Continental Airlines in exchange for Continental slots at LaGuardia and National airports.
