Nigerian attorney general out in cabinet shuffle
ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s attorney general has been given a lower-profile cabinet position after the vice president took power as the nation’s leader.
Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa had argued in court that ill president Umaru Yar’Adua could serve as Nigeria’s leader from anywhere. On Wednesday — the day after Vice President Goodluck Jonathan became acting president — officials announced Aondoakaa would become “minister of special duties.”
Officials say Labor Minister Adetokunbo Kayode now will serve as attorney general. Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure will become labor minister.
Yar’Adua’s more than two-month absence sparked outcry in the country. The National Assembly voted Tuesday to have Jonathan take power as acting president.
