Islamabad viewers spellbound by Raj Kapoor documentary

ISLAMABAD - People in Islamabad were in for a real treat when a documentary film on legendary Indian actor Raj Kapoor left them spellbound.

The 66-minute documentary film not only provided a glimpse of golden era of Indian film industry, but it also highlighted the importance of establishing peace and friendship between India and Pakistan.

The film, which was produced by the Film Division of the Ministry of Information, showed clippings of some of Raj Kapoor’s greatest films such as Awara, Aag, Mera Naam Joker, Shree 420 and the epic Mughal-e-Azam, in which he played the role of Mughal emperor Akbar.

Though Raj Kapoor was well known across the world, people in Russia recognised him for his bluish eye.

Despite the language barrier, almost every popular song filmed on him was remembered by the Russians.

‘Comrade Awara’ was how he was called by his Soviet guests.

His film ‘Awara’ was dubbed in Russian by Raj Kapoor himself, and it broke all records, as it was screened continuously for two years in Russian theatres.

Even the great Chinese leader, Mao Tze Dong, called the film’s version in Chinese his most favourite film. (ANI)
