ISLAMABAD - The Indian High Commission has denied media reports of a military complex is being constructed at the Attari check post on the Indian side of the border in Punjab.

The project envisages construction of an integrated check post (ICP) at Attari and the corresponding upgradation and development of railway-related and other civilian infrastructure, Associated Press of Pakistan quoted a high commission spokesman as saying.

When completed, the ICP will not only provide better facilities, including security arrangements, to passengers at Attari travelling from and to India but will also streamline and improve trade facilitation at the border, the spokesman added.

The ICP will be a civilian complex and not a military check-post or complex and will be completed by April 2011, the spokesman said.
