Kraft to close 1 Cadbury plant in UK

LONDON — Kraft Foods says it will close Cadbury’s Somerdale manufacturing facility in Keynsham in the United Kingdom as the British candy maker planned.

Kraft said as it moved to take over Cadbury that it would keep the facility open. But Kraft determined during extensive talks with Cadbury leaders that the process of closing the facility was too far along to reverse.

The plant will close by 2011.

Kraft did not immediately disclose how many workers will be affected.

Kraft got final approval to acquire Cadbury this month.
