‘World’s lightest beer’ launched
By ANIFriday, February 5, 2010
NEW YORK - Beer companies are engaged in a battle to offer costumers ‘healthier’ drinks and the latest move comes from Budweiser, which has come up with “the lightest beer in the world,” that claims to have only 55 calories per 12-ounce serving.
Budweiser’s SELECT 55 beer claims to beat Miller Genuine Draft’s MGD64, which has 64 calories.
The SELECT 55 beer is made with caramel malts and a blend of domestic and imported hops and has 1.9 grams of carbohydrates.
The company is using all marketing strategies to make the beer popular - a website, www.select55.com has been introduced to promote the beer.
The beer will see its commercial launch during Sunday’s Super Bowl.
“We’d be hard-pressed to find a better way to introduce millions of adult beer drinkers to the lightest beer in the world than to feature the brand as part of our Super Bowl ad lineup,” the New York Daily News quoted Keith Levy, vice president of marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc, as saying.
He added: “We’ve been encouraged by the positive response SELECT 55 has received in test markets and are pleased to now offer it to consumers nationwide. Our Innovations and brewing teams have once again successfully collaborated to give the consumer what they want.” (ANI)
