BIJAPUR - Chhattisgarh Police on Thursday displayed the bodies of eight Maoists who were killed in two separate incidents.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Vedvrat Sirmour, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bijapur, said the Maoists had attacked a police patrol and were killed in retaliatory fire.

“When the police team was coming from an operation, the Maoists fired at the party and in retaliation, the police party also fired and the Maoists were killed,” Sirmour added.

Combing operations have been intensified after the event.

Chhattisgarh is said to be among the worst affected areas by Maoists violence.

Maoists claim they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers, but are fast losing credibility after attacking schools, hospitals and infrastructure projects. (ANI)
