QUEENSLAND - An Australian woman is said to have chased a burglar out of her house while carrying her catheter bag at the same time.

Anne Senior, 61, revealed she was shocked to wake up and find a man standing over her bed with one of her bras on his head.

Senior, who lives alone in her Fulham Rd unit, says she picked up her catheter bag and chased the 20-year-old man out of her home.

“I went to bed at about 11.30pm and I woke at 12.15am and there was a young man standing at the foot of my bed and he had something white wrapped around his head,” North Queensland Newspaper quoted her as saying.

“I screamed and chased him out the back door. I must have been a funny sight because I had to pick up my catheter bag from the bucket where it sits beside my bed before I chased him.

“When I went and looked later on I found he had flung my bra in the bookcase so that’s what he must have been wearing on his head.

“I didn’t go to sleep for the rest of the night I was that shaken up. I thought I had locked that door but obviously I hadn’t. I’ll certainly be double checking from now on,” she stated.

She has handed the bra over to police for DNA testing, and the young man who stole a tub of ice cream, a tin of tuna, bread, cheese and butter as well as numerous other canned items from her pantry, has been apprehended.

He had tried the same thing with a second victim after leaving Senior’s home, and he had been chased out before he was able to steal anything from her Burrell Lane home.

Townsville Police Property Crime Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Shepherd said the Burrell Lane victim had also left her doors unlocked despite sleeping alone in her home.

“The offender was located shortly after running towards Nathan St,” Shepherd said.

“There was a short chase before he was apprehended. A tin of tuna and 2L ice-cream container were recovered near the scene.

“It was believed the man was under the influence of alcohol,” he added.

The 20-year-old man appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court and was charged with two counts of burglary.

He was remanded in custody and will reappear on February 9. (ANI)
