UDHAM SINGH NAGAR - Young girls of Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar are being trained in theatre for their personality development.

Organized by the state authorities under the ‘Sarva Siksha Abhiyan’ (Education For All programme), the month-long workshop imparts training in acting, direction, music, make-up and painting.

Trainers from the National School of Drama, were invited to train the girls in acting.

The girls seemed very excited to attend the workshop and take part in a play called ‘Safar Maina ka’ (Journey of a Mynah).

“I got to learn many things from this workshop, like what age should girls get married and go to school, and how to always be careful of eve-teasers. This workshop has been a learning experience for me,” said Diksha Rastogi, a trainee.

She added that the workshop not only made them aware of various hurdles that girls face in life but also the ways to tackle them.

“For the first time, we have introduced the idea of developing the personality of the girls of the region through theatre, with an aim to break their hesitation, and give them a chance to come to the forefront. There was no better medium than this to teach the girls,” said D C Bhatt, Coordinator, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.

“The girls of government schools do not get an opportunity like this to interact with the society, so this is their effort to give a chance to the girls to participate in extra-curricular activities,” he added. (ANI)
