Rajkot students recall Gandhi’s teachings on his death anniversary

RAJKOT - Over thousands of students in Rajkot staged a mass rally on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary and propagated his teachings pertaining to non-violence and humanism.

Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was assassinated on January 30, 1948, so this day is observed as his death anniversary.

The students’ march was jointly organised by Saurashtra University, Saurashtra Rachnatmak Samiti and Friends Group of Rajkot.

Many dignitaries including government officials, teachers and even models took part in the rally. giant tableau with a statue of Mahatma Gandhi and also a young man, who dressed up as Gandhi, were the prime attractions.

The main theme of the rally was to spread the message of taking up Khadi, a fabric made from hand spun yarns, besides propagating Gandhian teachings.

Saurashtra Rachnatmak Samiti President Devendrabhai Desai said, “Khadi and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi are not the past; rather they are the things of the future. Through this rally, we gave a message ‘Gandhi for youth and youth for Gandhi and Khadi for youth and youth for Khadi’.”

“We hope that this rally would spread a good message and Gandhi’s teachings’ and Khadi would lead the new generation in future,” added Desai.

Divaben, a local said, “Everyday we think about Gandhi as we did on January 26 and August 15 and October 2. We propagate message about Khadi in this rally hoping that the young generation would adopt Khadi.”

India will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of peace on his 62nd death anniversary today. (ANI)
