SURAT - The management of the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) of Surat has suspended six students for one year while 28 more students were meted out punishment based on their involvement in the ragging incident.

“. A total of 34 students were involved of which eight were girls,” said G.J. Joshi, Dean, Student Welfare Chairman, SVNIT.

Earlier this week, some of the junior students had complained of being ragged by the seniors, following which, the authorities took serious note of the matter and initiated action against those involved after conducting a probe.

In the past few years, ragging has come under fire after a spate of ragging-related suicides over the years. (ANI)
