Wal-Mart Stores reorganizes US operations
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says its U.S. division is combining some units and reorganizing them geographically in a move to streamline operations.
The world’s largest retailer is combining its U.S. realty, store operations and logistics divisions to help the company become more efficient and lower its goods.
The U.S. operations will operate under three geographic business units:, West, South and North.
Some managers’ jobs will be eliminated. Wal-Mart did not immediately return a call seeking information on how many.
The moves come after Wal-Mart’s Sam’s Club division said it would lay off 11,200 workers as it restructures its in-store demonstrations unit.
Wal-Mart shares fell 76 cents to $52.64 during afternoon trading.
