UK far-right party told to scrap whites-only rule
LONDON — Britain’s far-right British National Party has been warned by a court that it had one last chance to scrap its whites-only membership policy or face a possible court injunction.
The Central London County Court says Thursday that party leader Nick Griffin must introduce a new party constitution that complies with race relations laws at an extraordinary general meeting due to be held in two weeks’ time.
The BNP opposes immigration and claims to fight for “indigenous” Britons. Griffin is notorious in Britain for denying the Holocaust in the past.
The party has proposed amendments to its constitution, but human rights lawyers have complained that it was too vague.
Party officials must rush out letters to thousands of members to alert them to the proposed changes.
