Howard Zinn Dead At 87

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Howard Zinn, the most famous author for the book “A People’ s History Of The United States”, as well as a political activist and a teacher died at Santa Monica, California out of a heart attack on Wednesday. It was reported by her daughter, Myla Kabat-Zinn. Howard Zinn died at 87 while traveling.

The book, “A People’s History Of The United States” was published in 1980. The book which gradually turned out to be one of the most popular leftist texts was widely read and appreciated by people. Almost 1 million copies of this book were sold by 2003. He wrote this book for expressing his political and social views. However, the text was taught in high schools and colleges in the country. Lots of versions and editions came out in the following years. Some of them were in the form of graphic novel making it easier for young readers to comprehend. A documentary titled “The People Speak” was made which was inspired from the book encouraged social changes for the betterment of the country. However, the multi-talented and revered Howard Zinn is nowdead at 87.

In his long career Howard Zinn taught in various universities including Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and Boston University. He did his doctorate from Columbia University. He wrote several books which tried to make people socially aware. His last published work is a brief essay which came out last week. The essay talked about the first one year of President Barack Obama’s administration. Howard Zinn is dead at 87, his daughter says he lived a “very full and exciting life.”
