ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Prime Minister Yosuf Raza Gilani has said the government is ready to reopen the Swiss cases against President Asif Ali Zardari if Parliament withdraws the constitutional amnesty to the President.
“It was parliament that granted immunity to the president … if parliament withdraws it today, I will move to take action the same day,” Gilani said while addressing the National Assembly.
Gilani stressed that government is working in accordance with the Supreme Court’s verdict on the controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
“We don’t want clash among state institutions. The implementation of the NRO verdict would certainly take time,” he told the Lower House.
Rejecting the notion regarding threat to the PPP government, Gilani said the government would go to any length to secure the supremacy of parliament.
“I assure you that there is no threat to the system. Parliament is playing its role, so is the executive, the judiciary and the media,” he said. (ANI)
