PORBANDAR - A group of 50 adventurous individuals in Gujarat hoisted the national flag, the Tricolour at sea off the Porbandar coast, as the countrymen celebrated the 61st Republic Day by participating in different functions or watching the annual R-Day parade on television sets sitting at home.

Members of Shree Ram Swimming Club swam about one kilometre into the Arabian Sea along with the Tricolour.

The group’s objective was to celebrate the joy of hoisting the national flag in the sea and spread nationalistic feeling among the youth of the country through adventure.

“For the past 10 years, we have been hoisting flag in the middle of the sea. This year also nearly 50 members participated in this flag hoisting ceremony. We want to show how adventurous we all are,” said Harshit Rughani, a member of the swimming club.

After hoisting the national flag, the group members saluted it and sang patriotic songs on this occasion to mark this special day.

The members of the group were of different age groups. (ANI)
