Honduras says acting leader in hospital for tests

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — A Honduran official says acting President Roberto Micheletti is spending Sunday night in a hospital for tests.

Information Minister Rene Zepeda tells The Associated Press that Micheletti “is in good health” and is scheduled to leave the Military Hospital in Tegucigalpa at noon Monday. Zepeda says Micheletti is there for a “routine checkup.”

Micheletti vacated the presidential office Thursday without resigning his post to make room for President-elect Porfirio Lobo. Lobo is to be sworn in Wednesday.

Lobo was elected Nov. 29 to succeed President Manuel Zelaya, who was forced from office in June. Congress named Micheletti, then the congressional leader, to serve as interim president.
