RAYAGADA/MALKANGIRI - Two Maoist cadres surrendered before Orissa Police in Rayagada district on Monday as they had frustrated by the violent ideology.

“The surrendered naxalites were Dharma Rao Kumblika and Vanaja. They were members of Koraput-Srikakulam Divisional Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization. They joined the Maoists in 2003. They used to carry SLR, and have been involved in many incidents and have participated in various encounters as well,” said Anup Krishna, Superintendent of Police (SP), Rayagada.

The cadres said they wanted to lead a normal life.

“We found out that it is not the right way to live. So to lead a normal life we left the organization,” said Kumblika, surrendered Maoist.

“Yesterday night, around 15-20 people picked him up and started taking him away. We tried to stop them but they did not listen to us. In the morning, we found his body in the middle of the village,” said Binu Goud, a villager.

The Maoist violence is estimated to cause 600 to 700 deaths annually and the displacement 100,000 civilians. It has spread to 182 of India’s 602 districts and has been declared as the country’s single biggest internal security challenge.

The main objective of the Maoists is to prevent the development of infrastructure in remote areas, which so far has remained their exclusive domain. (ANI)
