LEH - Children in Leh, in the in Jammu and Kashmir are attending in an ice-skating camp to represent India at a competition in Poland.

The 15-day long track speed skating camp, which has been organised by the Ice Skating Association of India in partnership with the Ladakh Winter Sports Club, has brought together 35 youths from Leh and Kargil.

“Not many people here know a lot about speed skating. This is the first camp of its kind that has been organised in India and it’s here in Leh,” said Ravi Dhillon, long track speed skating coach.

“It’s only a 15-day-camp but we will train the children to such a standard that when they compete at an international level, they will fare well,” he added.

The camp has brought opportunity to many who were unable to pursue their interest in ice-skating.

“I have been studying here in Leh where there are a lot of skating competitions and this is how my interest came about but I never got the chance to do anything about it,” said Marjuma, a long track speed skating student.

Out of this group, ten will be chosen for a training camp in Poland and to represent India in a long track speed skating meet, which will take place from February 10 to 25. Jigmet Angchuk(ANI)
