Va. regulators OK Appalachian Power surcharge
RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia regulators are allowing Appalachian Power to charge customers to cover costs for environmental compliance and reliability.
The State Corporation Commission announced the approval of the surcharge on Thursday. Officials accepted an agreement by various case participants that allows a net increase in the surcharge of about $30 million.
The surcharge will apply to service on and after Jan. 15. Regulators say an average residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month will see an increase of about $2.28 a month on their bills.
A case on the company’s base rate increase is still pending.
Appalachian Power is a unit of American Electric Power.
