Pak may ask US to ‘review its footprints’ to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Parliament’s National Security Committee has recommended to the government to urge the US to ‘review its footprints’ in the country, saying Islamabad would never compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The committee’s appeal is part of recommendations made to the Foreign Office for the January 28 conference on Afghanistan in London, The Daily Times reports.

The committee’s call for review of the US policies clearly highlights Islamabad’s long-standing demands of stopping drone attacks in the tribal regions along the lawless Afghan border and maintaining a proper transparency in the context of foreign private security contractors’ activities in accordance with the country’s laws.

Referring to the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, the committee also noted that the deal has “significantly altered the strategic balance in the region”, and called for a similar agreement with Pakistan to reduce the imbalance.

It also raised questions over India’s presence in Afghanistan, saying it constitutes an added strategic threat to Pakistan. (ANI)
