Year after Hudson River jet landing, fear remains
NEW YORK — Nearly one year later, survivors of a plane’s splash landing in the Hudson River are suffering painful aftereffects.
All 155 people aboard survived the Jan. 15, 2009, Miracle on the Hudson.
But Anastasia Sosa no longer finds swimming fun — it feels like survival training. Jorge (jorj) Morgado can’t bring himself to get back on a plane.
Months after the water landing of US Airways Flight 1549, flight attendant Doreen Welsh had a panic attack when she inhaled a little water in the shower. After nearly drowning in the river landing, she is afraid of water and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Welsh has uneasily returned to flying but still hasn’t decided whether to go back to her job.
