ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Mian Raza Rabbani has condemned the frequent visits to Islamabad by American and British officials, and termed their statements as an interference in the internal affairs of the country.
Rabbani asked the Foreign Office to take notice of such statements, which infringed on the independence and sovereignty of Pakistan.
Rabbani and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali also moved an adjournment motion condemning the harsh security checks introduced by the United States at its airports for citizens of several countries, including Pakistan.
The pair also called upon the government to give a matching response to the humiliating steps introduced for Pakistanis traveling to the US, The Dawn reports.
Several ministers in the country have criticized the Obama administration’s decision to carry out extra security checks, including full-body pat downs, on people flying into the United States from 14 mostly Muslim countries, including Pakistan.
Under the new rules, all citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Algeria, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen must receive a pat down and an extra check of their carry-on bags before boarding a plane bound for the US. (ANI)
