Lowe’s fined in Colorado over pesticide sales

DENVER — Colorado has fined Lowe’s Cos. Inc. $35,000 for selling a restricted pesticide in the state, but $16,000 of that will be suspended if the home-improvement chain has no further violations.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture said Tuesday Lowe’s was offering Tomcat Ground Squirrel Bait at five stores in 2008, two years after the company was told the pesticide could be used only by people licensed by the department.

Lowe’s spokeswoman Katie Cody says the company told all its stores to stop selling the product in 2006 and that the restocking and subsequent sales were inadvertent.

Cody says the company takes the matter seriously.

Lowe’s is based in Mooresville, N.C.
