Officials: 6-nation meeting on Iran being planned
VIENNA — Officials say the United States and five other countries are likely to meet this week to discuss what to do about Iran’s nuclear program.
The officials tell The Associated Press that the meeting is tentatively set for New York on Saturday.
The meeting would bring together high-ranking diplomats from the U.S., Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.
They are trying to persuade Tehran to give up uranium enrichment and heed other U.N. Security Council resolutions meant to diminish fears that Iran seeks to make nuclear arms.
The two officials — from two of the six nations — spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because their information was confidential.
