2009 Auto Sales: Mercedes annual US sales fall
MONTVALE, N.J. — Mercedes-Benz USA said Tuesday that its sales rose 8.2 percent in December, posting its highest numbers all year, but sales fell for the full year.
BY THE NUMBERS: Sales rose to 20,025 vehicles from 18,507 in December 2008. For all of 2009, sales were down 15.3 percent from the year before, to 190,604 vehicles.
TOP SELLER: Despite sales of the C-Class — which is marketed to younger and first-time Mercedes-Benz buyers — falling 27.7 percent to 52,427 vehicles last month, the automaker sold more of that model than any other in December or the full-year.
HOT MODELS: Sales of the new 9th generation E-Class leaped 57 percent to 5,437 models sold in December, compared with 3,464 a year ago. The E-Class was the only model for which annual sales improved, rising 11.7 percent to 43,072 from 38,576.
