Mass marriage ceremony in Amritsar

AMRITSAR - At least 51 poor couples tied the nuptial knot at a mass marriage ceremony that was held near Amritsar on Thursday (December 31).

The ceremony organised at Majithia, around 35 kilometers from Amritsar saw the participation of social activists, community leaders who came to bless the couples along with their parents.

On their part, the grooms and brides expressed their gratitude for the help and support provided to them by the organisers of this mass marriage event.

“It is a very good initiative for those parents who cannot marry off their daughters for want of finances. The organisers are providing us with all the necessary things which we need for initiating our household,” said Ramandeep Kaur, a bride.

Amar Shahid Baba Jeevan Singh Gurduwara Committee bore all the expenses, including meals for the guests and gifts for the newly wed couples.

“I congratulate all the families and I pray to God to bless the couples and may they live in peace and harmony for all times to come,” said Bikram Majithia, a local legislator and member of the organising committee. (ANI)
